VI About us
Terms of use
Kingma State is the website of the Stichting Herstel Kingma State, a non-profit foundation of the Kingma family. On this site we share the history of the Kingma State estate near Zweins and of the Kingma family, the research that the Stichting Kingma State began in 1999 and that still continues. In short: read, use and share what you find here, and say where you found it.
Who we are
Stichting Herstel Kingma State, near Franeker (Zweins), Friesland, the Netherlands. Email: info@kingmastate.nl.
Use with attribution
You are free to use the information on this site: take facts into your own family tree or research, quote passages, link to pages and write about them, for personal, genealogical, educational, journalistic and scholarly use. The one condition is that you name Kingma State as your source, preferably with a link to the page where you found it. That way others can find the source again, and the research behind it stays visible.
We suggest this form:
Kingma State, ‘Title of the page’, kingmastate.nl, https://kingmastate.nl/… (accessed 18 October 2026).
For example, for a person in the family tree:
Kingma State, ‘Ignatius Saecklesz van Kingma’, family tree on kingmastate.nl, https://kingmastate.nl/familie/stamboom/p/ignatius-saecklesz-van-kingma-1700/?lang=en (accessed 18 October 2026).
Cite an article from De Kinkhoorn by its author, issue and year, with the link to the issue on this site.
Not without our permission: republishing large parts of the site or the family tree as a whole verbatim (the tree is also protected as a database), presenting the content as your own work, and commercial use of our texts or own images, such as in a book for sale. Just ask at info@kingmastate.nl; for family and society publications we are usually happy to say yes.
Images and scans from archives and others
Many images come from archives, museums, image banks and photographers. Each image and each scan shows its source and, where there is one, its licence. For such images the terms of that source apply, not ours: if you want to reuse a scan or photograph, get it from the archive itself and follow what that archive allows. Public-domain images (such as old maps and the watercolours by Albert Martin) are free to use; we still appreciate a credit. Images under a Creative Commons licence may be used with the attribution the licence asks for.
The texts on this site, the articles in De Kinkhoorn and our own photographs and drawings belong to the foundations and the authors. The rule above applies to them: use with attribution, and ask first for commercial use.
Search engines and AI
Search engines are welcome: we want to be found. AI services may read the pages too, and AI models may be trained on them. We do ask that the source is credited there as well wherever possible: an answer that draws on this site should preferably link to the page on kingmastate.nl. Republishing large parts of the site or the family tree verbatim, also through an AI service, still needs our permission first.
Accuracy
The family tree and the stories are research in progress. We work carefully and give the source for every paragraph; a relationship that is probable but not proven is marked ‘probably’. Still, a mistake may have crept in, or a new source may show a link differently. If you spot a mistake or have something to add, please email info@kingmastate.nl, ideally with the source. We are glad to hear it.
Kingma State 3D
Kingma State 3D is a reconstruction: a reasoned picture of how the estate may have looked, based on maps, descriptions, images and comparable buildings. Where the sources are silent, we made choices. The sources and the rights of the images are listed in the app itself.
Privacy
Living people. On this site we do not publish data of people who are alive or may be alive, nor of people who died less than 25 years ago, unless they had a public role (for example as a board member, author or elected representative). If something about you or a living relative appears that should not be here, or something is wrong, you may ask for access, correction or removal under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Email info@kingmastate.nl; we reply within a month. Requests from relatives about a deceased family member are handled with the same care.
Visitors. The site sets no tracking or advertising cookies and uses no third-party services that track visitors. We count visits without cookies and without storing IP addresses: a visitor can only be recognised within one day, by an encrypted code that means nothing the next day. What the site remembers on your device is only what a feature you use needs, such as that you have already seen an explanation. The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes technical connection data (such as your IP address) to deliver and protect the pages. The maps use map images from OpenStreetMap, fetched through our own server.
Email. What you email us is used only to answer your message and to process your addition. A fact you send us is added only once we find it in a source.
