Life story in brief

Joost Kingma was born in a 1930s house and, more than sixty years later, obtained his doctorate with a thesis on the garden suburbs of the 1930s; the idea came from a colleague at Bouwfonds, where he was director of communications. Before that he designed irrigation projects in Iraq and Thailand for the Heidemij. He was a co-founder of the Stichting Kingma State, wrote the column 'Kingma Kronkels' and initiated the plan to rebuild the state, demolished in 1864, in modern form. His last book, about colonel Ignatius van Kingma, appeared in December 2022; in September 2023 he died suddenly, aged 72.
