The State in the 19th century

The state was known to consist of a ‘very beautiful building and garden’.

It was sold and demolished in 1864.

Shortly before the demolition, Leeuwarden draughtsman Albert Martin made a sketch, a watercolour and a lithograph of the state, all three of which are kept in the depot of the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden.

Remarkably, a photograph was also taken of the state in the years prior to its demolition. This photograph is now owned by the Van Beijma thoe Kingma family.
